Called to Discipleship

by

The average North American Christian is about 3,000 Bible verses overweight… It’s wonderful that people understand what they believe, but knowledge in and of itself is not a hallmark of Christian maturity. As Paul says, knowledge puffs itself up. Love, by contrast, builds up. And some of the most biblically literate people in Jesus day got by-passed by Jesus. – Carrie Nieuwhof

Called to Compassion

by

Do not despise any man, however poor he may be; but behave with full respect and kindness to every well-intentioned man, especially to the poor, as to our members worthy of compassion- or, rather to members of Christ- otherwise you will cruelly wound your soul. — St. John of Kronstadt

Calling All…

by

Beware of anything that competes with loyalty to Jesus Christ. The greatest competitor of devotion to Jesus is service for Him…. The one aim of the call of God is the satisfaction of God, not a call to something for Him. – Oswald Chambers

Firm Foundations

by

The Christian shoemaker does his duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship. – Martin Luther

Vintage Christmas: Love

by

Love unites those that iron had chained.
Who will tell Him of our gratitude,
For all of us He is born,
He suffers and dies.
– Adolphe Adam (from the poem “Minuit Chretiens!”, or “Oh Holy Night”)

Vintage Christmas: Hope

by

Hoping does not mean doing nothing, it is the opposite of desperate and panicky manipulations, of scurrying and worrying. And hoping is not dreaming. It is not spinning an illusion or fantasy to protect us from our boredom or our pain. It means a confident, alert, expectation that God will do what He said He will do. It is imagination put in the harness of faith. It is a willingness to let God do it his way and in His time. – Eugene Peterson
